Our comrade Isabel Peralta reacts to this week’s celebrations of Spain’s national day: she condemns the sterile, dynastic ‘patriotism’ that was promoted in Monday’s marches and displays. Instead Isabel speaks of a patriotism so pure that we feel it bound to our destiny, like the blood coursing through our veins. To be Spanish is not to defend a status quo or a sterile institution. To be Spanish is to bear a historic mission as vast as the sea—a mission to be carried out even at the cost of the very last drop of our blood. For Spain is either defended with everything, or it is not defended at all.
