Instead Isabel speaks of a patriotism so pure that we feel it bound to our destiny, like the blood coursing through our veins. To be Spanish is not to defend a status quo or a sterile institution. To be Spanish is to bear a historic mission as vast as the sea\u2014a mission to be carried out even at the cost of the very last drop of our blood.
